Job description

ILIA Beauty is seeking a results-driven and strategic Director of Amazon & Ecommerce Marketplaces to lead the global growth of our Amazon, international marketplace, and social commerce businesses. This leader will own marketplace performance across domestic and international Amazon channels, as well as emerging social commerce platforms, ensuring revenue growth, profitability, and brand integrity.

You will be responsible for building and managing a best-in-class in-house team while defining and executing strategies that drive marketplace optimization, international expansion, and innovative approaches to content, SEO, and advertising that achieve top search visibility and category leadership.

This role requires a deep understanding of the Amazon ecosystem, paid media, SEO, inventory operations, and data-driven decision-making to scale ILIA’s presence globally.

This role is hybrid for candidates based in Los Angeles or Orange County, CA and will report into the SVP of Digital & eCommerce.


Marketplace Strategy & Expansion

  • Own the end-to-end marketplace strategy for Amazon (US and international) and social commerce platforms, aligning with brand and business objectives.

  • Lead international Amazon expansion, including market prioritization, operational readiness, compliance, and localized go-to-market strategies.

  • Define assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies that maximize growth while maintaining profitability and premium brand positioning.

  • Partner with legal and compliance teams to ensure brand protection and control of unauthorized resellers.

Search Optimization, Content & Advertising

  • Oversee Amazon SEO strategies, ensuring product listings, A+ content, and brand stores are optimized for discoverability and conversion.

  • Drive paid media strategy (Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, DSP) to achieve top-of-search placement and share-of-voice dominance.

  • Continuously optimize keywords, bids, and creative based on data insights to maximize ROI and category ranking.

  • Ensure all marketplace content aligns with ILIA’s clean beauty positioning while adhering to platform best practices.

Team Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Build and lead a high-performing in-house team across marketplace operations, content optimization, advertising, analytics, and supply chain coordination.

  • Establish scalable processes and workflows to support rapid growth and evolving channel requirements.

  • Drive forecasting and demand planning in collaboration with operations and supply chain teams to ensure strong inventory health and minimize stockouts or overstocks.

P&L Ownership & Business Performance

  • Own the global marketplace P&L, setting revenue and margin targets, monitoring KPIs, and driving actionable insights.

  • Conduct regular business performance reviews, making data-driven decisions to improve growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.

  • Balance budget efficiency with aggressive growth objectives, optimizing TACoS, ACOS, and return on ad spend.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Collaborate with marketing, creative, product development, finance, and operations to align marketplace initiatives with ILIA’s broader strategic goals.

  • Build strong relationships with Amazon and social commerce platform representatives to leverage platform innovations and secure early access to beta programs.

  • Selectively manage external agencies and vendors where needed to complement in-house expertise.

Job requirements

  • 8–10+ years of eCommerce marketplace leadership experience, with a strong track record driving Amazon growth and marketplace profitability.

  • Proven success in Amazon SEO optimization, advertising, and content strategy to achieve top search rankings and category leadership.

  • Experience leading international marketplace expansion, including operational setup and localization strategies.

  • Strong background in team building and scaling marketplace functions in-house.

  • Beauty, personal care, or premium consumer goods industry experience is strongly preferred.

  • Expert knowledge of Amazon Vendor & Seller Central, Amazon Advertising Console, and related marketplace ecosystems.

  • Deep understanding of search algorithms, keyword strategies, and conversion optimization.

  • Strong financial and analytical acumen, with the ability to own and optimize a P&L.

  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.

  • Strategic, data-driven mindset with the ability to translate insights into action at scale.
